Lynne T. (O’Brien) Mara

Lynne T. (O’Brien) Mara, 76, of Hingham, MA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on September 23, 2022.

She was the beloved wife of Joe Mara for 56 years and the dearly loved mother of Suzanne Carroll and her husband, Tom, of Hanover, Tracey Mara and her husband, Jeff Putz of Reading, and Joe Mara Jr. and his wife, Sara Bryant of Needham. Lynne was a dedicated and loving grandmother to Lindsay, John, Andrew & Charlie Carroll, Cam & Cate Mara and Will Putz.

Lynne was the sister of Jean Thomas of North Attleboro, the late Marjorie Calabraro of Amherst, NH, and her husband Ron, John O’Brien of Hull, the late David O’Brien and his wife Mary of Hull, and Greg O’Brien and his wife Chris of Humarock. Lynne is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Lynne grew up in Milton and graduated from Jeanne d’arc Academy where she made lifelong friends that she continued to often see throughout the many years of their friendship. Lynne also attended Stonehill College. She dedicated her life to raising her children, which she would tell you was her greatest achievement. She loved decorating, shopping and spending time with family and friends. Lynne especially loved spending summers in Harwich with her children and grandchildren. She always enjoyed weekends away with family, including at Lake Winnipesaukee, and hosting many holiday dinners in Hingham with family and friends.

After being diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer over twenty years ago, Lynne had the courage to help spearhead a new fund and annual fundraiser at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute; serving as a courageous role model and leader in the fight against Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia (WM cancer).

Lynne will be lovingly remembered for being an amazing wife and best friend to Joe Sr., as a devoted mother and grandmother and as a true friend to so many.  We will always remember and cherish her passion for her family, her quick wit, sense of humor and her ability to find the best shopping deal around. We will miss and always love Lynne, Mom, Mere and Nini.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9 AM on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, prior to the Funeral Mass in Church of the Resurrection, Hingham at 10 AM.

Services will conclude with interment in High Street Cemetery, Hingham.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation. Her grandson Andrew recently announced that he will be running the 2023 Boston Marathon for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in her honor. Click here for the link to his page.
