Kathleen C. Garvey

Kathleen C. Garvey (Nee Curran), entered into eternal rest July 25, 2018 after a brief illness.

Devoted wife and best friend of William F., Beloved daughter of the late Helen M. (Gotsell) and Thomas J. Curran of Waltham and Brighton. She was born in Cambridge and raised in Brighton where she attended St. Gabriel’s Monestary School and Mt. St. Joseph Academy where she was awarded many honors. Upon graduation from the Mount she attended Boston College where she earned a B.S. in education with a concentration in business subjects.  She earned a masters degree in education administration from Boston University and a C.A.G.S from Bridgewater State University along with an additional 24 hours. She also earned a one year fellowship as a financial analysis with polaroid corporation.

Upon graduation from Boston College she began a 40 plus year career in the Weymouth school system, business department, which she chaired twice department. Along with another teacher, Thomas Miley, they developed a partners in business program which became a state model. As a teenager Kathi loved to ice skate and was a member of the Boston skating club where she was trained by Maribel Vincent Owen and was friends with many of the 2001 US world skating team which tragically crashed in Europe. In addition to skating Kathi loved to travel visiting England, France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Bermuda, Ireland and Canada. She was an avid reader and loved spending time at her summer home in York Beach Maine.

In addition to her husband of 45 plus years she leaves her sister Patricia Milligan and her husband David of Braintree, Aunt and Godmother to Kerri M. Cusack and her husband Patrick and Grandniece Emma Cusack all of Braintree, Godmother and cousin to Jane Smith and her husband Gary of York Beach Maine. Dear cousin of Mary Moore of Arlington, Joan Jacobs and her husband Patrick of Lexington, Elinor Black and her husband Steven of Kingston, Richard Gotsell and his wife mary of Reading, John Gotsell and his wife Marie of Winchester and Elizabeth Calcaterra and her husband David of Arlington. Devoted friend of James Campbell of Bourne and Rod and Mary (Malo) Hatch of Emden Maine.

A wake for Kathleen will be held Monday July 30th at McDonald Keohane Funeral Home 809 Main Street (RTE 18)  South Weymouth MA from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Relatives and friends will gather at the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Tuesday for a celebration of her life at a funeral mass at St. Francis Xavier church 234 Pleasant Street South Weymouth at 10:30 AM.

Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery Weymouth.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Judes childrens research hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Weymouth Education Founation Inc. or Weymouth Rotary Foundation Inc.
