Born in Cohasset on June 11, 1938, he was the son of the late Anthony J. and Maria (Gulla) Barbuto. Joseph was raised in Hingham, attended local schools and graduated from Hingham High School. Following high school, Joseph enlisted in the United States National Guard and then the United States Army Reserves. Joseph’s career was in construction, and he worked as a contractor. He enjoyed his work and all the relationships he built throughout the years.

A dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Joseph’s family was the most important part of his life. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandson more than anything. Those who knew him, know that there wasn’t anything Joseph wouldn’t do for those he cared for. Joseph loved Sunday family dinners he and his wife hosted throughout the years. In his spare time, Joseph enjoyed walking the beach with his wife, going to Foxwoods, listening to music, dancing, golfing, and watching Boston sports, especially the Bruins.

Joseph was a hardworking man with a great sense of humor. He was selfless, caring and humble by nature. His life lessons and example are part of his legacy that continue through his family. He will be missed by all the lives he touched.

Joseph’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude for the care and support of the Norwell VNA and their associates.

Joseph was the beloved husband of the late Candida M. (Politano) Barbuto. The two married on June 2, 1963, and together they shared 55 loving years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Anthony J. Barbuto and his wife Antoniette of Hingham, Mary J. Barbuto of Hingham, Joe J. Barbuto and his wife Erica of Marshfield, Amy C. Barbuto of Marshfield, the late Cristina Barbuto, and the late Robert V. Barbuto. Joseph was the loving grandfather of Robert, Joseph, Jessica, Jared, Felicia, Tyler, and Jake. He was the loving great grandfather of London and the dear brother of Anthony Barbuto and his wife Elizabeth of Hingham, and the late Anne Smith. Joseph is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and his canine companion, Snoopy.
