Joseph R. Mazzotta

Joseph Richard Mazzotta, of Weymouth, passed peacefully after a three year courageous battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Wednesday, October 10, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Joseph was born on January 3, 1942 in Brockton, MA to the late Giuseppe Severio Mazzotta and Edith Rose (Molisse). He was the beloved brother of the late Frances B. (Mazzotta) Falletti.

Joseph loved Weymouth and was a lifelong resident. He coached and volunteered for many activities when his children were younger. He was employed by the Weymouth Department of Public Works for 42 years beginning as a laborer in 1962 and working his way up to become DPW Director in 1997 finishing his career in 2001.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Early in his life he was an outdoor enthusiast enjoying hunting, fishing and camping. Years later he enjoyed golfing and was a member at Rockland Golf Course. He loved playing in the seasonal tournaments or just 18 holes with the guys. His hobbies included gardening as was evident by the flowers and various plantings in his yard, along with his Koi fish pond. Most of all, he was dedicated to his family, especially to his wife, children and grandchildren, supporting all their many activities and accomplishments.

Beloved husband for 57 years to Beverly (Angell). Devoted father of the late Victoria Mazzotta, Lisa (Mazzotta) Washburne and her husband Brad Washburne of Easton, Shari (Mazzotta) Ciarlone and her husband Joseph Ciarlone of Weymouth, Joseph Jr. and his wife Jean (Courtney) of Milton, Christopher and his wife Lori (Cooley) of Billerica. Loving grandfather of Nathan J. Malloy of Weymouth, Ryan Mazzotta of Milton, Brad Washburne Jr. of Easton, Ava and Sofia Mazzotta of Billerica and Bailey, a white German Shepherd who never left his side.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday, October 14th 2-6 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home EAST WEYMOUTH at 3 Charles Street (corner of Charles & Middle Street).

Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Monday, October 15th prior to the Funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM.

Burial in Fairmount Cemetery, Weymouth.
