John A. Zofchak

Big John” was born in Akron, Ohio to George and Colleen Zofchak on April 4, 1950. He graduated from East High School in Akron in 1968, and married his high school sweetheart, Lynn, on November 24th 1969. They recently celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2019. John was hardworking oftentimes holding two jobs, but found his calling for food production after a chance temp position at a prepared food manufacturer in Medina Ohio.

In 1983, John and Lynn relocated to Massachusetts, settling in Hingham where they raised their five children. John was known as a leader in food manufacturing and distribution in New England. Fulfilling his entrepreneurial dream, he established Boston Salads & Prepared Foods in 1991, which marked its 30th anniversary in 2021. In addition to his five children that supported the business, he referred to his many dedicated employees as “family”. Known for his magnanimous personality, generous heart, multitude of stories and jokes; John enjoyed the great outdoors, fishing, bow hunting, target shooting, working with his hands, and a good ice cream sandwich. He disliked an over-cooked steak, setting the heat below 70 during the winter, and losing at board games. He took great enjoyment in being a grandfather, treasuring each visit and vacation spent together.

A long-time supporter of numerous charities, especially South Shore Hospital, and the Redemptoris Mater Seminary. His impact on local communities was wide-spread but often unspoken. A faithful Catholic, John and Lynn visited the Holy Land three times and often attended daily rosary and Mass together. He cherished the unconditional love received from his Saint Paul parish family. He will be missed by many dear coworkers, friends, and colleagues.
