Doherty, John J. of Quincy, born in Co. Kerry, Ireland, died March 11, 2017.   

John loved his family, especially being a “Dadoe” to his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing and going to hockey games with them. He also loved gardening and animals. John would travel for a month every year back to Ireland. He worked as a butcher at the Brockton Public Market and was a longtime friend of Bill W. He had a dry sense of humor, was thrifty but generous to others, and very sensitive. John was always helping others and putting them before himself. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. 

Beloved husband of Brigid (McDonagh) Doherty of Quincy. Loving father of John Doherty and his wife Kathleen of Braintree, Cathy Doherty-Garfield of E. Bridgewater, Debbie Turco and her husband Anthony of Braintree, and Tara Doherty of Braintree. Cherished brother of Neil Doherty of Holbrook, Seamus Doherty of Leicester, Tim Doherty of Kerry, Ireland and the late Mary O’Malley, and Christie, Michael, and Dermott Doherty. Devoted “Dadoe” of Devin, Jessica, Hunter, and Rebecca Doherty, Emily and Andrew Garfield, Anthony, Olivia, Sophia, and Samuel Turco, and Kaitlyn, James, Ryan, and Liam Kane. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Thursday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10:30 AM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Boston. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
