John E. Schmidt

Schmidt, John E. of Middleborough, died October 11, 2017.

Beloved husband of Ellie Schmidt (McManus) of Middleborough.  Loving father of William Schmidt and his wife Rowena of North Carolina, James Schmidt and his wife Barbara of Ashland and the late Colleen Schmidt.  Cherished step father of Joseph Wieners and his wife Vicky of Middleborough, Nicole Tinkham and her husband Dan of Norton and Danielle Crowley and her husband Kevin of Plymouth.  Devoted grandfather of Jamie, Kate, Steven, Josh, Brodey, Casey, Matthew, Avery, Jacob, Jamison and the late Tyler and Kelsey.  Adored son of the late John and Josephine Schmidt.  Also survived by many dear cousins and friends.

John was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA graduating with honors from the US Naval Academy in 1958 and served as an artillery officer in the United States Marine Corps for 4 years and another 10 years in the Reserve.  John was military employed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) Draper Lab, working as a mechanical engineer on the US Navy Special Project.  While at M.I.T., John attended Northeastern University in Boston where he received his Master’s Degree in Engineering.  John was an avid sports enthusiast who enjoyed tennis, skiing, white water rafting, handball and squash.  After moving to the over 55 community, John gained an interest in art, completing over 150 portraits and was a member of the Oakpoint art Association. John will be sadly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 2-6 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:45 AM on Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10:30 AM. Cremation will follow.
