Joan M. (Lennon) Kenney

Joan M. (Lennon) Kenney, of Stoughton and formerly of Wollaston, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, February 27, 2019. She was 88.

Born in Quincy, she was raised in North Quincy and was the daughter of the late Thomas and Gertrude (Martin) Lennon. Joan attended local schools and graduated from North Quincy High School with the Class of 1948. After High school, Joan married her husband James and the two moved to Wollaston, where they built their family with love and devotion.

A homemaker, Joan was devoted to her family. She loved her children more than anything and devoted her life to ensuring their success. Joan had a very close extended family with many cousins, that were like the sisters she never had. In her spare time, she always preferred to be with her loved ones, especially her grandson.

After Joan’s children were grown, she worked at the William Rice Eventide Nursing Home in Quincy. She was the Assistant Activities Director and loved her job. Joan was able to take her hobby of decorating and interior design and flourish. Joan decorated the facility for all holidays, festivities and special events. She had an elegant touch that made everything beautiful.

Joan was a consummate homemaker and always kept an immaculate home. Joan also liked to read, spend time with her dog, Holly and her grandson, Adam.

Joan was a woman of great faith. She was devoted to Our Lady and lived her life in accordance with the Christian virtues of faith, hope and love. Joan was a loving person, always caring and willing to give others her time.

Joan’s wit, fun loving personality and exquisite diction are part of her legacy that now continue through her family and loved ones. She will be missed by all the lives she touched.

Joan was the beloved wife of the late James P. Kenney, who died in 2009. Together they shared over 50 years of loving marriage. She was the devoted mother of James P. Kenney, Jr. and his wife Deborah of Stoughton, and JoAnn Kenney of Quincy. Joan was the loving grandmother of Adam Kenney of South Boston and the dear sister of the late Thomas Lennon. Joan is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday, March 4th from 4 through 8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, March 5th prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10:30 AM.

Services will conclude with interment in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joan may be made to the charitable organization of one’s choice.
