Jeannine D. (LaFond) Armstrong

Jeannine D. (LaFond) Armstrong, a resident of Hingham for 51 years and formerly of Dorchester, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, December 7, 2018. She was 86.

Jeannine was born in Lewiston, Maine on May 27, 1932.  After moving to Boston as a young girl, she attended local schools and graduated from the Jeremiah E. Burke High School in Dorchester, Class of 1949.

Jeannine married William J. Armstrong, also from Dorchester on April 21, 1956 at Saint Gregory’s Church in Dorchester.  They were married for 62 years.

Jeannine was a homemaker and raised her family with love and devotion. She loved her family more than anything. A selfless person, Jeannine was a caretaker and spent many years caring for family members in nursing homes as well as family members that were homebound. Everyone loved her gentle and kind presence that made people feel welcomed and loved.

A woman of great faith, Jeannine lived her life in accordance with the Christian virtues of faith, hope and charity. She was a faithful Catholic and did her best to instill good morals and values in her family. She was an active parishioner at Saint Paul’s Church in Hingham, and when she was younger, she taught CCD and was also a member of the Catholic Women’s Club. Jeannine had a special devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and to Our Lady through the Holy Rosary.  It brought her joy to live out her faith even when she wasn’t able to go to the church.

Jeannine was a happy person with a great sense of humor and always loved to laugh. A social butterfly, she would speak with anyone. She never thought twice about walking up to a veteran, extending her hand and thanking them for their service. She was very patriotic and loved the United States Marine Corps, which held a special place in her heart. She would often share fond memories of being a young girl when WWII ended, along with all the experiences she had growing up during the war.

In Jeannine’s spare time, she loved to be with family and friends. Her children remember their mother always being the host at the holidays and having friends drop by.  The door was always open.  She hosted art classes in her home, loved painting landscapes, restoring old furniture, sewing, and working in the yard.  Although raised in Boston, she always had a strong connection to her roots in Maine.  It was a place that she loved to visit throughout her life. Just passing the sign on the highway, “Welcome to Maine” would induce great joy and peace.

Jeannine was the beloved wife of the late William J. Armstrong, who passed away on April 10, 2018. She was the devoted mother of Aimee Armstrong of California, Carrie Armstrong of Hull, and William J. Armstrong, Jr. of New Hampshire. Jeannine was the loving grandmother of Rachel Kafka and her husband Nathan Hennagin, and Molly Kafka, all of California. She was preceded in death by her cherished mother, Eleanor R. “Dolly” (Matz) LaFond and her dear brother, Rene V. LaFond.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday, December 12th from 4 to 8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), Hingham.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9 AM on Thursday, December 13th, prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Paul’s Church, Hingham at 10AM.

Services will conclude with interment in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hingham.
