After graduating from nearby Moorsetown HS, Jeanne attended the Abington Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia, PA.  As a Registered Nurse, she began what became more than just a career as she pursued her lifelong passion of providing nursing care to those in need.  Her early career lead her to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden, NJ.  There she met a handsome young physician, Dr. Arthur F. Calnan, from West Roxbury, MA while he was completing his residency in Ophthalmology at the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.  They were soon married and would remain married for 57 years until he predeceased her in 2011.

Jeanne temporarily put her career on hold to have their six children.  Kathleen M. Calnan of Gunrock Beach, MA; Diane E. Robinson and her husband Stephen Clarke of Tiverton, RI; Barbara Calnan Forssell who predeceased her mother; Jeffrey Faber Calnan and his wife Jo of Winchester, MA; Douglas J. Calnan and his wife Carolyn of Scituate, MA and David P. Calnan and his wife Aylene of Hingham, MA.  Jeanne also leaves behind many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

While she and her husband raised their children on Lincoln Street in Hingham, Jeanne resumed her career on the staff of the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth.  Once her children were raised she then traveled to Boston to work with those less fortunate on the staff of the Pine Street Inn.  As a Friend of Bill W for over 35 years, she further advanced her career on the staff of the High Point Treatment Center in Plymouth.

Jeanne and Arthur loved the many winters they spent with their children on the slopes of Sugarloaf Mountain in Maine and their summers on the water as past members of the Hingham Yacht Club.  Jeanne was a constant volunteer with her favorite being a Doric Dame at the Massachusetts State House.

Jeanne was a past member of the St. Paul’s Parish in Hingham, Holy Family Church in Duxbury and St. Mary’s of the Nativity Church in Scituate.
