Jean S. (Laurie) York, of Braintree, died June 11, 2018 at the age of 89.

A caring and passionate supporter of civil, worker’s, and women’s rights, Jean put action and commitment behind her convictions in many ways, including participating in Dr. King’s March on Washington in 1963, acting as Union Chief Steward at Raytheon for over 40 years, and voicing her progressive and proudly Democratic beliefs in a regular political column for the Braintree Forum.

Jean’s work for her community took many forms as well, from her volunteer work with both South Shore Elder Services and Kindred Nursing & Rehabilitation, to her consistent donations to local animal shelters. She was a lifelong parishioner at Sacred Heart Parish in Weymouth Landing.

The beloved wife of the late Edmund “Buddy” York, Jean is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, who will sorely miss her humor, mettle, and attitude towards life.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visitation on Monday 9 AM – 10 AM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital).

Funeral Mass will follow on Monday at 10:30 AM in Sacred Heart Church, Weymouth.

Burial in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Weymouth.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jean may be made to MSPCA, 350 S. Huntington Ave., Jamaica Plain, MA 02130.
