McCarthy, Janet Doherty, Age 89, of Hingham, died peacefully on July 21, 2018 at her harbor side home in Hingham with her family by her side.  
 
Born to Alfred and Edith (Cotter) Doherty in Natick, MA on January 12, 1929 the family moved to Wethersfield, CT in 1938 and Janet was graduated from Connecticut College in 1950. She married her Wethersfield neighbor the late William L. McCarthy, MD in 1951.  They moved to Boston while he attended Boston University Medical School and settled in Hingham in 1955.  She was the loving mother of her predeceased daughter Sara J. McCarthy, MD and her husband Richard Taus, MD, her daughter Carol A. McCarthy of Waban, and sons David C. McCarthy and his wife Lori of Hingham, Paul F. McCarthy and his wife Alexis of Malvern, PA, and William S. McCarthy and his wife Melissa of Hingham, and her 12 grandchildren, Amanda, Liz, David, Will, Perry, Cotter, Jack, Patrick, Cashel, Declan, Matt, and Tom, all who adored her.
 
Janet was a longtime member of the Hingham Yacht Club, an avid golfer at Cohasset Golf Club and a gardening enthusiast. Her greatest joys were spending time with her family and enjoying her home of 60 years on Hingham Harbor.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday, July 26 from 4:00-8:00pm in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St., HINGHAM. Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:00am on Friday, July 27 prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Paul’s Church, Hingham at 10:00am. Interment private.

In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452, in memory of her father Alfred F. Doherty.
