Jane P. McDermott

Jane P. “Nama” McDermott, of Quincy, formerly of Brighton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on October 11, 2018 at the Tufts Medical Center in Boston. She was 82.

Born and raised in Brighton, she was the daughter of the late Patrick J. and Mary (Lee) McDermott. She attended local schools and graduated from Saint Columbkille High School with the Class of 1954. After high school, Jane’s career was spent working in the telephone industry at many of the major telephone companies. She happily retired in 1995.

Following her retirement, Jane spent much of her time with her family and friends. Jane was a selfless woman who was devoted to the people she loved. There was not anything she would not do for others. Jane never missed any of her children and grandchildren’s events and extra curricular activities. She loved being active and involved in their lives.

A woman of great faith, she lived her life in accordance with the Christian values of faith, hope and love. Jane had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother and did her best to live her life in communion with the Lord.  She was an active parishioner at both St. Joseph and St. Ann’s Church, a member of “St. Ann’s Marianne’s” and the Castle Island Association. Jane was also a supporter of the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Jane devoted her life to the service of others and by raising her family with love, values and devotion, her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all the lives she touched.

She was the beloved wife of the late Paul A. McDermott, who passed away in 2009. Together they shared 50 loving years of marriage. Jane was the devoted mother of Paul A. McDermott Jr. and his wife Paula of East Bridgewater, Patrice Sullivan of Quincy and Hugh McDermott and his wife Carol of Milton. She was the loving grandmother of Kendall Scudere and her husband Nick of Raynham, Jordan and Conner McDermott, both of East Bridgewater, Sara Sullivan of Quincy, Elizabeth Sullivan of Beacon Hill and formerly of Quincy, Kate, Shannon and Ryan McDermott, all of Milton. Jane was the loving great grandmother of Owen P. Scudere of Raynham. Jane was the twin of her dear brother Edward L. McDermott and his wife Marge of Plymouth and the dear sister-in-law of Inez McDermott of Manitowoc, Wisconsin and Ginny McDermott of Barrington, Rhode Island. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Jane was preceded in death by her siblings John McDermott and his wife Phyllis, Kay McGilvray and her husband Albert, James McDermott and his wife Marie, William McDermott and his wife Alice, Charles McDermott and his wife Patricia, Francis McDermott and his wife Theresa, Joseph McDermott and Mary Theresa McDermott.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday, October 16th 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, October 17th prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10 AM.

Services will conclude with interment in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
