Jane E. Hogan

Hogan, Jane E. (Olson) of Weymouth, formerly of Dedham, died September 18, 2018. She was 86. She grew up in Muskegon, Michigan during the great depression, and made her parents proud by graduating from the Hackley School of Nursing as a RN.

Jane worked as a registered nurse for many years, including as Head of Nursing at Park Marion Nursing Home in Brookline, and at Chamberlain Nursing Home, also in Brookline. Everyone on staff, from housekeeping to the head office, grew to love her. She always became attached to her patients, and tried to make the holidays special for them. One of the first people to carry a pager, she was always on-call, and spent many nights, weekends, and holidays working double shifts.

When her children were little she began making wreath shaped cookies for friends and neighbors every Christmas. By the time she became a grandmother, she expanded that enterprise until she was making dozens of different kinds for dozens of people. Each grandchild had a favorite Christmas cookie that had to be included.

She loved art and she studied painting and sculpture, and spent one summer in Europe touring artistic sites. That is a cherished memory because soon after she became a single working mother, raising 3 teenagers all on her own. She enjoyed several lifelong friendships, and she will be dearly missed.

She met Thomas Hogan, the love of her life, in the 1980’s, and they were married for 31 years. She enjoyed traveling with Tom after they had retired. Jane continued her love of baking cookies in retirement and was affectionately known as the “cookie lady” by family and friends.

She cherished every moment she ever spent with her grandchildren Max, Bailey, Olivia, Ben, Caleb, and Miceala.

Beloved wife of Thomas W. Hogan of Weymouth. Devoted mother of Michael Peters of CA, Suzanne Chapman of TX, David Peters of Switzerland. Cherished grandmother of 6 grandchildren. Sister of the late Joyce Olson, and daughter of Harvey and Jessica Olson, of Muskegon, MI.
