James M. McCarthy

Jim grew up in Charlestown, graduating from Boston College High School and graduating Magnum Cum Laude from Boston College Class of 1958. He later lived in Braintree and Weymouth before settling in Hingham. Jim worked for Gillette for 25 years, retiring as the Director of the MIS Department. He was an avid runner, including 12 marathons and was a New England sports fan. He grew up playing hockey, coaching and playing on the Gilette hockey team. He will be remembered as a kind and loving man with quick wit, great one-liners and amazing hugs. He was totally devoted to the love of his life, Rosemary and their marriage was a shining example of selfless, love and commitment. He was a man rich in blessings and will be deeply missed.

Beloved husband of 62 years to Rosemary (Cronin) McCarthy of Hingham. Devoted father of James McCarthy and his wife Maria of VA, Denise MacDonald and her husband Ed of Weymouth, Catherine Morrissey and her husband Sean of Weymouth and Christopher McCarthy and his wife Jodi of Franklin. Cherished Papa of James and Amanda, Colleen and Dave, Ted, Cameron and Amanda, Charlie and Katie, Molly and Travis, Jack, Haley and Dave, Hannah and Ben, Heather, Mike and Amanda. Great-Papa to Abigail and soon to be 3 additional great-granchildren. Loving brother of Jeremiah McCarthy of Plymouth, Francis X. McCarthy of OR and the late Jack McCarthy and Marge Prior. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Dear friend of Mike McDonough of Weymouth and Charlie and Joan Cahill of Hingham.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital).
Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Thursday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Agatha’s Church, Milton at 10:30 AM.

Burial in Holyhood Cemetery, Boston.
