James A. “Jim” Culbert

Culbert, James A. “Jim” of Hingham, died February 20, 2015.

Raised in Waterbury, Connecticut, Jim graduated from Northeastern University with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and was an avid learner throughout his life.  He worked as an engineer for Hazeltine Corporation in Braintree, Massachusetts for 22 years designing electronics.  Retirement afforded Jim many hours inventing and building less practical things in his home workshop, frequently with his grandchildren by his side. He and his wife Betty were adventurous travelers exploring the world from China to Europe, Russia to New Zealand. Jim was very fond of Vieques where he spent his last days swimming, horseback riding, and making his favorite people laugh.

Jim enjoyed sailing and cars but, most of all, loved anything that included family and friends. Jim was a happy, energetic, genuine, life-loving soul and will be missed terribly.

Beloved husband of 52 years of Betty Culbert (McGinn) of Hingham. Loving father of James Culbert Jr. and his wife Karen of Lynnfield, Sean Culbert and his wife Emma of NY and Jennifer Culbert of Arlington.  Devoted Grampy of Samantha, Allison, Sydney, Harry, Mac, Grace and Audrey.  Caring brother of Kay Fayer of CT, Mary Lou Peluso and her husband Bill of TN, Patricia Culbert of CT, Margaret Signorelli of CA and the late Stephen Culbert. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM Saturday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Paul’s Church, Hingham at 10 AM.
