Henry L. “Harry” Duggan, Jr.

 

Henry L. “Harry” Duggan, Jr.  of Squantum, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital – Plymouth, February 6, 2018.  The beloved husband of 57 years to Patricia F. (Kelley) Duggan of Squantum. Cherished father of Cynthia “Cindy” Hoar and her husband Brian of Plymouth, Henry “Ted” Duggan and his wife Jill of Plymouth and David L. Duggan and his wife Mary Ellen of Braintree. Son of the late Henry and Lucy Duggan. Brother of Marie Keefe and her late husband Arthur of Quincy and Robert F. Duggan and his wife Marianne of Weymouth. Adored grandfather “Harry” to Lauren, Kathryn and Emily Hoar and Rachel & Harrison Duggan, and uncle to several nieces and nephews.

Harry grew up in South Boston. He served in the United States Marine Corp. during the Korean War. He graduated from Boston College High School and furthered his education graduating from Providence College with a B.A degree. In addition, he received an M.Ed from Boston State College and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study from Boston University. Harry worked for 37 years in education, 27 years as a Guidance Counselor at Wellesley High School until his retirement in 1991.  Children always held a very special place in his heart and he shared his time with the Quincy Recreation Department, working with youth sports and camp for special needs children.  He greatly enjoyed attending his own children’s and grandchildren’s many activities. Harry was an avid reader and historian. He enjoyed many vacations to Cape Cod, where he made memories that his family will treasure forever. Harry served as an usher at the Star of the Sea Church in Squantum for many years. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, with his quick Irish wit, who adored his family.

 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 2-6 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 10:45 AM on Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy at 11:30 AM.

Burial in St. James Cemetery in Whitman.
