Henry J. DuLaurence, IV

Henry Joseph DuLaurence, IV, of Easton, passed away peacefully Sept. 1, 2015 surrounded by family and friends.

Henry was the son of Nancy Novince DuLaurence of Hull and Henry J. DuLaurence, III of Salem. He is also survived by sister Tara DuLaurence of Brandon, VT and sister Hawley MacEachern and her husband Allan of Hull. He also leaves his former wife Kimberly DuLaurence, six cousins and many loving and caring friends.

Henry was born in Cleveland, OH August 28, 1966 and grew up and went to school in Hingham, MA. His early life was full of a variety of activities that included drama, sailing, social events and community involvement.   Although Henry dealt with cancer while in high school, he beat that disease and went on to enjoy a series of adventures over the next 35 years that spoke to his love of people and life.   An excellent sailor, Henry was the crew on vessels that sailed in the Caribbean and in the waters off the coast of Massachusetts. He raced boats in Hingham for the Lincoln Sailing Club (Lincoln Maritime Center), Hingham Yacht Club and Hingham High. As recently as 2014 he was enjoying piloting sailboats out of Hull Yacht Club with as much vigor as when he raced in his youth.

He also loved music. A skilled guitarist, Henry participated in picking parties across Massachusetts, and he also played with friends every chance he got. Henry always brought one of his many guitars to social gatherings in case there was an opportunity to entertain. Without fail, he would serenade everyone he knew with a guitar solo of Happy Birthday on their special day. Henry’s professional pursuits included sports car restoration, print services, office management and most recently the role of real estate agent in Hingham. The common thread through all these jobs was the service aspect. He loved helping people and was genuinely a calming influence on those around him – regardless of the situation. He was larger than life in all that he accomplished, but his focus and interest was on those around him and how he could help make them enjoy life as much as he did.

While Henry professed to drive fast and take chances, he seldom did so with his relationships. He was a caring son, friend, husband and ally who went out of his way to make people feel welcome when he was around. He was a polite renaissance man in an era where such attention to manners, dress and accommodation are overlooked.  Henry was one-of-a-kind and, at the age of 49, was taken too soon.

A memorial service will be held September 20, 2015 at 1 PM at St. Nicholas United Methodist Church, 128 Spring St. in Hull, MA. A celebration of Henry’s life will follow the service the same day at the Hull Lifesaving Museum, 1117 Nantasket Ave. in Hull.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Henry’s memory to the Lincoln Maritime Center, P.O. Box 492, Hingham, MA, 02043. Funds will go toward naming a sailboat in his name and toward continuing sailing instruction at the facility.
