Henry J. Black

Black, Henry J. of Mansfield, died October 21, 2016.

Beloved husband of Ellen A. (Lynch) Black of Mansfield. Loving father of Theresa M. Myers of Lakeville, Christopher J. Black and his wife Lori of Marshfield, and Brian T. Black of Somerville. Cherished brother of Grace Powers of Atlanta, Jean Flater of Braintree, Cynthia Lennon of Rockland, Dorothy Lennon of Middleboro, and the late Patricia Hendry. Devoted “Papa” of Olivia and Gregory Myers and Kayla and Violet Black. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. 

Henry had a passion for music throughout his life, and played in St. Kevin’s Emerald Knights drum and bugle corps of Dorchester.  Graduated Boston Technical High School in 1957 and attended Lincoln Technical Institute; Served in the Army National Guard.  He turned his early love of drawing into a career as a civil and structural draftsman, and later worked as a metal fabrication estimator.  He was a 35-year survivor of a kidney transplant.  Henry found joy in the game of golf, as it united his love of sport, camaraderie, and the New England outdoors.  His upbeat spirit will be missed by all who knew him.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9 AM on Wednesday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10 AM. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury.
