Henry B. Collins

Collins, Henry B., “Jim” Jr. of Abington, passed away on November 23, 2017 in the Colonial Rehab and Nursing Center in Weymouth after a long illness. He was 83.

Born in Boston, he was raised in Quincy and graduated from Quincy High School in 1952. A four year Veteran of the U.S. Navy, he had a 41 year career in finance, retiring in 1998 as Director of Patient Financial Services for Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston. He was a long time member of the Lions International and a Past President of the Parkway – Boston Lion’s Club. Active in church affairs he was a member of the parish Finance Council and a number of church activities at Sacred Heart Church in Weymouth Landing. Jim was also a member of the U.S.S. William C. Lawe (DD763) Assoc, The American Legion, the Irish Cultural Center, a supporter of the Irish Committee to benefit the St. Francis House, a shelter in Boston. The Irishhearts for Haiti Committee and a supporter of the Irish Pastoral Center in Dorchester.

He and his wife, Theresa, greatly enjoyed Irish music, dance, and travel. They were members of the West Roxbury Irish Social club, the Norwood Irish Music Club, where Mr. Collins served as Vice President, the Irish Music Club of Greater Boston, the Co. Donegal and Roscommon Association, the St. Brendan Society of the Co. Kerry Club, and the South Boston Irish American Society. Together, they made trips to Ireland, several Western European countries, Bermuda, the Bahamas and many parts of the United States and Canada.

Beloved husband of over 60 years to Theresa (Maguire) Collins. Father of Barbara A. Dower and her husband, Paul, of Abington, and James E. Collins and his wife, Becky, of Northboro, his treasured grandchildren, Amalia, Matthew, and Anna Collins of Northboro. Son of the late Henry B. and Helene Collins of Quincy.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 3-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home EAST WEYMOUTH at 3 Charles Street (corner of Charles & Middle Street). Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 8 AM Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Bridget’s Church, Abington at 9 AM. Burial will follow in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
