Helen W. Canavan

Canavan, Helen W. of Wollaston and N. Falmouth, died May 22, 2016.  

Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Survived by her son John C. Gartner and his wife Michaela and their son Thomas of Quincy. Survived by her brother William Canavan and his wife Helen of Belmont. Also survived by her sister-in-law Marilyn of Waltham and brother-in-law Robert of Quincy. Daughter of the late Andrew Canavan of Connemara, Ireland and Catherine Quinn Canavan of Galway, Ireland. Predeceased by her husband Bernard L. Gartner. Sister of the late Joseph Canavan of Avon, Margaret Keohane of Dorchester, Mary Melody, Catherine Canavan, Anne Derrane, and Barbara Maimaron, all of Quincy. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Helen lived for her family and enjoyed going to daily mass at St. Ann’s Church and then breakfasting at Barry’s Deli with fellow churchgoers when her health permitted. Her summers were spent in N. Falmouth where she enjoyed spending time with her family at her cottage and where her brother William lived with his family in close proximity. Helen worked for over 35 years for Verizon, retiring in 1989. 

Her family would like to thank the third floor staff at Webster Park in Rockland, Old Colony Hospice, and her many caregivers over the past few years that all treated her with dignity and respect.    

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Thursday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10:30 AM. Burial in New Calvary Cemetery, Boston.
