Gerard Terence Maguire

Gerard Terence Maguire, 69 years of age from Weymouth, MA passed away while surrounded by family at his home on April 25th.

Gerard was born in Cambridge, MA, the youngest of 6 children of Francis Maguire of County Tyrone and Susanna (Monaghan) Maguire of County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland.  He attended St Mary’s High School in Cambridge.  In 1971 he met Nancy Neville. Gerard and Nancy were married 2 years later at Sacred Heart Church in Weymouth.  Gerard and Nancy settled in Weymouth to raise their family and remained for the past 42 years.  They also enjoyed many wonderful summers on the Cape in Brewster. Gerard spent his entire career in industrial pipe and valve sales. He joined Independent Pipe in 2000 and remained happily employed with them for the past 18 years.

Gerard had many passions in life – listening to a good Irish band, watching the Red Sox and Patriots, making a connection with someone he just met, interacting with his customers and fellow employees, and spending time with his close knit family. He was a very involved grandfather of 5 energetic young boys, Ryan, Connor, and Cameron Steele and Evan and Andrew Maguire.  His grandsons called him Poppi and will remember him fondly for the love he showered on them, for his infectious sense of humor, and for his gregarious personality.

Gerard was a devoted husband, married for 45 years to Nancy, and he relied heavily on her love and support over the last several years when health issues first began. He was also a proud father and father-in-law, always eager to brag about the many achievements of his daughter Katherine Steele and her husband, David, and son Timothy Maguire and his wife, Kelly. Gerard was very close to his sister Susan Maguire of Winthrop and her daughters Erin and Kristen, and to Nancy’s four siblings and their spouses — Carol Greene (Tim), Bill Neville (Kate), Jeanne Flaherty (John), and Michael Neville (James). Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Gerard was predeceased by his four older siblings – Francis and Thomas Maguire, Claire Naughton, and Peggy McIvor.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 2-6 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Weymouth at 10 AM. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Liver Foundation in Gerard’s name, 188 Needham Street, Suite 240, Newton, MA 02464
