Gerald K. “Jerry” Hackett

Hackett, Gerald K. “Jerry” of North Weymouth, Lake Suzy FL, and Linden Ponds Hingham died February 22, 2023. He was 94.

Born in Weymouth to the late Walter F. and Rose A. (Taylor) Hackett. Jerry lived in North Weymouth and attended local schools. At 18 years old, he enlisted in the Marines. After his time in the service, Jerry married the love of his life Peggy Tise in 1950. The two were together until Peggy’s passing in 1980. Jerry was a Boston sports fan, cheering on his favorite teams, the Patriots and Red Sox. He was also an avid golfer, playing at the Halifax Country Club and the Kingsway Country Club in Florida. Jerry was proud of his 30+ year career as a Weymouth firefighter retiring as Deputy Chief. He loved doing projects around the house, taking walking trips around Boston, and riding his bicycle. He cherished his trip to Ireland in 1982 and his trip to Amsterdam with his son, Jed, to visit his granddaughter in 2013 and spoke about them like it was yesterday. He loved spending time with family on the beaches in Marco Island and Siesta Key in Florida and in Falmouth MA. More than anything, Jerry was a dedicated family man and there was nothing that was more important to him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Loving father to Jed Hackett and his wife Judy of CA, Carol Donoghue and her husband John of Hanover, and Kathy Hines and her husband David of Whitman and Falmouth. Cherished grandfather to Christine Donoghue, Jack Donoghue, Dr. Margo Hines, and Dr. Kathleen Buzzeo. Great-grandfather to Natalie Poon and Anthony Buzzeo III. Predeceased by his siblings Rose Madden Smith and her husband Edward, Walter “Bud” Hackett and his wife Ruth, Fred Hackett,  Jack Hackett and his wife Pat and brother-in-law Edward Smith. Survived by his sister-in-law Pat Hackett of Weymouth. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Tuesday, March 7, 8:30-10:30 AM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A – Bicknell Square). A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home immediately following the visitation at 10:30 AM.  Funeral Mass will be held in St. Jerome Church, North Weymouth at 11:00 AM.
