George W. Riccio

George W. Riccio passed away after a day surrounded by his loved ones on Sunday, July 31, 2022, while holding his wife’s hand. He was 71 years old.

He was born in Cambridge to Helena (DeVasto) and Arthur T. Riccio and raised in Somerville before his family moved to Hull in 1962 where he later graduated from Hull High School and became a lifelong resident. George got a job working at Weinburg’s Bakery and it was there that he met Karen, his wife-to-be and soulmate. They married in 1975 and had four beautiful children together. George worked in the photography industry for many years and later started a career in IT. He retired after having a long-distinguished career with Wellington Management Company.

George’s sense of humor, charm and kindness made him the man that everyone loved. George centered his life around his family and loved being a father and grandfather. He adored his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed hiking at World’s End, mingling with his neighbors, and puttering around the house. He also loved food, whether it was cooking, baking, eating or watching Food Network. Even when he was unable to eat, he was selflessly cooking for others. His generosity and strength impacted not only his beloved family but all those who were lucky enough to know him.

In 2019 George was diagnosed with leukemia and he spent the last three years battling his cancer with strength and positivity. Dana Farber’s Yawkey 8 became his home away from home. Wonderful caretakers like Dr. Wadleigh, Adriana, Theresa, Hannah, and Chisom, to name a few, became family.

Beloved husband of 47 years to Karen (Peterson) Riccio of Hull. Devoted father of Matthew Riccio and his partner Nicole Levesque of Cambridge, Jason Riccio and his wife Cathy Bright of Canton, Kristen Edwards of Hull and Nell Riccio of Boston. Cherished papa of Cameron and Weston Edwards. Loving brother of Alphonse and Linda Riccio of Cohasset, Art and Julie Riccio of Plymouth, Linda and Michael Peraino of Cohasset, and honorary brother, Daniel Percoco of Cambridge. Brother-in-law of Lisa Peterson and her husband Ramon Raagas of Cambridge, Paul and Deb Peterson of PA and Leslie and Edmund Earle of Roslindale. He is also survived by beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Saturday, August 6, from 11AM – 2:30 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. The family will be offering remarks celebrating George’s life the same day at 2:30 PM in Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, Hingham. Burial will be privately held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of George may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute Leukemia Program/Dr. Wadleigh, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA, 02284.
