Frederick M. “Fred” Shaw

Shaw, Frederick M. “Fred” of Weymouth, died August 14, 2017.

Beloved husband of the late Joyce (Seymour) Shaw.  Loving father of Deborah Prescott of Hingham, Kathryn Ness and her husband Bradley of Plymouth, Frederick M. Shaw Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of Hingham and Raymond M. Shaw and his fiancée Lisa of Weymouth.  Devoted grandfather of Stephen, Jennifer, Frederick “Mike” and Deirdre.  Cherished son of the late B.Clark and Phyllis C. Shaw.  Caring brother of Merilyn Clement of CA and Thaddeus Shaw of NC.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Fred was born in Fall River, MA.  He was a United States Navy Veteran during WWII on the USS ANTIETAM (CV-36).  Fred was a hard worker and proud Entrepreneur.  In his earlier years, he worked as an Oldsmobile Service Manager, SAAB Service Engineer and in the family business at Seymour’s Ice Cream in Dorchester, MA. In 1968 he founded Shaw Saab in Hingham, MA.   Shaw Saab was a successful and well-respected business on the South Shore earning numerous national customer satisfaction awards and astounding recognition for having more Saab’s in Hingham per capita than any other city in the nation.  Not only was Fred a hard worker but he dedicated his life to helping others.  He was a Master Mason – Affiliated with Old Colony Lodge, Hingham and Dalhousie Lodge, Dedham.  He was a 2-time Past Monarch of Mahded Grotto, Dedham and affiliated with Moslem Grotto and Azab Grotto groups.  Past president of both the South Shore Shrine Club and Hingham Kiwanis.  After retirement Fred enjoyed frequent visits to Little Compton, RI and Cape Cod Canal where he planted hundreds of daffodil bulbs up and down the canal walkway.  He had yearly gatherings with his brother and sister and treasured family get togethers.  Fred spent free time gardening, taking photographs and studying his family genealogy.  Fred will be remembered for his caring and loving personality.  He will be sadly missed but never forgotten.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. Funeral service will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM in the Newton Cemetery Chapel, 791 Walnut Street, Newton Center, MA 02459. Burial to follow.
