Francis Leo Toughill Jr.

September 30, 1931 – March 14, 2024

Francis Leo Toughill Jr. was born on September 30 th 1931 and adopted as an infant by Francis Leo and Erma Morgan Toughill of Philadelphia, PA.  He grew up playing a variety of sports, lettering in football, wrestling and baseball at Glassboro High School in Glassboro, NJ. He was voted most athletic in 1950 and inducted into the Glassboro High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012. He went on to play football in college and told endless stories of playing for Jim Tatum at The University of Maryland.

Frank served our country in the US Army from 1953 to 1955. He was stationed in Germany along with his brother Robert Leo Toughill. As a boy Frank played on the Red Tops baseball team with Jim Boyd as coach and Jim’s daughter, Nancy, keeping the stats. Little did Frank know at the time that he would fall in love with Nancy Boyd and become her husband on May 8 th 1954. Frank and Nancy enjoyed nearly 70 years of marriage together. Frank’s career spanned 40 years as a sales representative for the Dupont Company. He worked in the paint refinishing division and loved visiting the autobody shops in his territory. Many of his customers still remember him to this day.

Frank and Nancy settled in Hingham, Massachusetts in 1962 where they raised their family. They spent 10 happy years with the wonderful families on Colonial Road before moving a few streets away in the same neighborhood. This home brought endless family gatherings with their grandchildren and extended family. Summertime was highlighted by poolside activities. Frank’s favorite place to be was on his floating lounge chair, where he could enjoy his grandchildren and grandnephews at play.

Frank developed a love for skiing in the 1960’s. He took his wife Nancy on a ski trip to the beautiful Swiss Alps and even built a second home in the mountains of Killington, Vermont. This home was built with the help of familty, friends and Colonial Road neighbors, as Frank always found a way to put people to work.

Francis is survived by his loving wife, Nancy (Boyd) Toughill, his brother Jeffrey Toughill of Pitman, NJ, his son Francis Leo Toughill Jr. of Hingham, his daughter Terry Toughill Roder and her husband Paul of Sudbury, grandchildren Jacquelyn Roder and Gregory Roder, sister-in-law Grace Ford of Hingham and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Friday, March 22 th from 4-7pm in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald Street, Hingham. A Funeral Service will be Celebrated on Saturday, March 23rd  at 10Am in House of Prayer Lutheran Church, 916, Main Street, Hingham, MA. Burial will follow in Fort Hill Cemetery, Hingham.
