Francis A. Keegan

Francis A. Keegan of South Weymouth on April 15, 2015, beloved husband of 63 years of Barbara F. (Booth) Keegan, passed away peacefully. 

He was born in Roxbury, MA on September 17, 1927 to the late James Keegan and Elizabeth (McGuire) Keegan.  He was the beloved father of and is survived by his children and their spouses, Jacqueline and James J. McColgan, Jr., Michael and Donna Keegan, Kathleen and David Goodrich and Barbara and Brian Graham.  He was also the beloved grandfather of and is survived by 10 grandchildren:  Douglas Goodrich, Briana Keegan, James J. McColgan, III, Ashley Goodrich, Christopher Keegan, Colleen (McColgan) and her husband, David-John Plis, Lindsay Graham, Courtney Graham, Mallory Goodrich and Michael Graham, as well as 1 great-grandchild, Dylan Zelonis. He became the family patriarch when his beloved siblings, the late Mary Lentini, James Keegan, Elizabeth Dalton, William Keegan and Patricia Brugger, each passed. He was a loving uncle and maintained a close relationship with his many nieces, nephews and their children.

Frank graduated with honors from Lowell Technological Institute (now the University of Massachusetts at Lowell) with a degree in Civil Engineering.  He was employed by the City of Boston for many years and retired as the Chief Engineer for the City of Boston. Like many young men of his generation, he was profoundly influenced by the events of Pearl Harbor, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy upon his high school graduation at the age of 17.  He earned many achievements for his outstanding service as a U.S. Navy First Class Seaman serving in the Pacific Theatre in WWII.  He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion (Old Dorchester Post). He was a generous, spirited man who never met a stranger, only a potential friend.  He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital)  Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 10:30 AM on Tuesday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 11:30 AM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester. In lieu of flowers, donations in Frank’s memory can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
