Elizabeth Potter

Elizabeth “Betty” Potter, age 94, died peacefully on July 19, 2017 at Linden Ponds while surrounded by her loving family.

Betty was born in Taunton, MA to Gladys and Wilmarth Peirce.  She was one of 7 children and was a 1940 graduate of Attleboro High School.  Betty served in the SPARS, a women’s branch of the Coast Guard Reserve during WWII, and served as Yeoman until she was recruited to travel and perform with the USO show, “Tars and Spars’.

After the war, she married Robert “Bob” Potter in 1946. They had 4 children and resided in North Easton, MA for 30 years before retiring to Cotuit, MA.  While in North Easton, Betty was director of the Center Street Nursery School in North Easton for over a decade before she retired.  She was an active volunteer at the Friends of the Cotuit Library and also volunteered at the library at Linden Ponds where she lived for the past 13 years.  Betty enjoyed gardening, sewing,  painting, and most importantly, life with her family and extended family.

Beloved wife of the late Robert T. Potter.  Loving mother of Diane Looney and her husband Robert of VA, Robert “Gary” Potter and his wife Sharon of VA, William James Potter and his wife Lucia of Cotuit, and Leslie MacKinnon and her husband D.J. of Hingham.  Sister of Marilyn Flynn of Plainville and predeceased by her brothers Benton, Dutchy, Bill, and sisters Dorothy and Carolyn.  Grandmother to Michelle, Jennifer, Robb, Sarah, Stephanie, Brianna, Erin, Lindsey, Taylor, and Alec.  Also survived by 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her memorial service at Cotuit Federated Church, 40 School St., Cotuit, MA on Tuesday, August 1st at 11 AM.
