Elizabeth “Betty” Martin

Elizabeth “Betty” (O’Rourke) Martin, a longtime Weymouth resident, Betty passed away at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, February 17, 2018,  following a period of declining health.

She was born September 2, 1927 to the late Clara (Paine) O’Rourke and Frank O’Rourke in Boston, MA. She was a graduate of Our Lady of Perpetual Help High School/Mission Hill High School and also attended Northeastern University.

Betty was a member of many groups including the Living Rosary Group, Third Order of Mary, Little Way of St. Therese, St. Augustine’s Prayer Group, Weymouth Newcomer’s, Sewing Club, St. Jerome’s Choir, SMA Fathers Mission Group, Cub Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout Leader, Our Lady of Victories, Marian Medal Awards, Parvule Dei Medal Group. She was the recipient of the St. Ann Medal for Scouting in 1975.

She was a dedicated parishioner of St. Jerome’s Church for over 60 years as well as a former cook at St. Jerome’s Rectory.

She was the wife of the late William Lawrence Martin and mother of William Stafford Martin and Ann of Farmington,AR: Patricia Martin-McBride and her husband Brian of Weymouth, Lawrence Craig Martin and his wife Margaret of Brockton, The late Theresa Airth and her husband Douglas of Smithfield, Maine, Marybeth Smollett and her husband Robert of North Weymouth, Randall James Martin and his wife Kelly of South Portland, ME and Clare Martin Lyons and her late husband John of North Weymouth.

She was the sister of the late Mary Ellen O’Rourke, Francis O’Rourke, Edward O’Rourke, Eleanor O’Rourke and Henry O’Rourke.

Betty is survived by her grandchildren Gregory, Alec, Genevieve, Kathryn, Kerry, Samantha, Susan, Paul, Carolyn, Elisa, Madeline, Patrick, Lauren, Bethany and Rebekah. She is also survived by her niece Claire Howsberger of Weymouth and her nephew, Jason O’Rourke of Peabody.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday 3-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A – Bicknell Square). Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:45 AM on Thursday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Jerome Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM. Burial in Old North Cemetery, Weymouth.
