Eleanor (Hill) Jones

Private Service

Eleanor (Hill) Jones, 87, of Weymouth passed away on Wednesday, December 1st at home with her two daughters by her side.

Eleanor was born and raised in New Bedford by her mother, Kathryn Hill. She married her highschool sweetheart, David Jones, while he was still in the service. Unlike many women at that time, Eleanor decided to work outside the home along with raising her 4 children. Eleanor spent countless years as an English teacher for the Weymouth Public Schools. Her own guilty pleasure was enjoying a good book while basking in the summer sun. She loved her home on the beach in North Weymouth and travelling to Marco Island, FL to enjoy their beaches in the winter. She passed on her love of reading to her grandchildren who in turn passed it down to their own children.

In times of need, she provided love and support to her family. When Eleanor lost her daughter-in-law Maryann in 1995, Nana-Banana (which she was lovingly referred to) made it a priority to spend time with her grandchildren. She was able to provide much needed support to her son as he navigated this new reality and provided much-needed emotional and structural support to her grandchildren. Years later after Eleanor lost her husband of 64 years, her daughter Pam stepped in as HER love and support. She cared and advocated for her mother for these past two years which allowed her to grant Nana’s wish of living out the rest of her days in her own home. Our family would like to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to Karen for the extraordinary care and love you provided and the support you gave to Pam in achieving this goal.

Eleanor is predeceased by her mother, her husband Dave, her beloved children Michael S. Jones and Dawn E. Molignano. She is survived by her daughters, Pamela McKay and her husband Peter (Weymouth, MA) and Cathy Jones (Ft. Myers Beach, FL), as well as her six grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren who brought her so much joy throughout their lives: Dawn Molignano Waters and her husband Jude with Daniela and Patrick, Erika Molignano Roland and her husband Barry with Ava May, Adam Jones and his wife Kathleen with their son Lukas, along with Katie Jones, Sam McKay, and Nathan McKay.

A private funeral mass and burial was held.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating children’s books to your local homeless shelter this holiday season. The gift of a good book will give joy to children for years to come.
