Edward F. Murphy Jr.

Murphy, Edward F., Jr. of Newton, formerly of Medford and Quincy, died May 8, 2017.

Ed graduated from Saint Anselm College and began a long successful career in the United States Marine Corp. He proudly served in the Republic of Vietnam with the 3rd Marine Division as a Rifle Platoon Leader. Ed was later assigned to the 25th Marine Regiment where he served as an Assistant Operations Officer, Company Commander and Weapons Commander. Several years later he was appointed the Battalion Commander for the 1st Battalion 25th Marines, representing all Infantry Marine Reserve Units in New England. Ed retired from the Marine Corp as a Colonel after 31 years of service. He was a member of the USMC Officers Association, American Legion, VFW, Marine Corps League and Semper Fidelis Society. Mr. Murphy was also the President of E.F. Murphy & Assoc. Inc., a financial planning firm in Quincy. He will be remembered for his kind and gentle nature.   

Ed is survived by his children Edward F. Murphy III and his wife Meaghan of NH, Laura E. Luther and her husband Christopher of CT and their 3 children. Cherished brother of Maryanne Hershey and her husband Bob of Dennis, John Murphy of Marshfield and the late Eleanor F. Murphy. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Beloved life partner of Cynthia Port of Newton, her children; Rob Silverman and his wife Chrissy, Julie Silverman and their 3 children.  

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday 4-7 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:45 AM on Thursday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10:30 AM. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
