Edward D. Kingsbury

Edward D. Kingsbury   August 30, 1943 – April 12, 2015

Ed Kingsbury was a voracious reader, humble veteran, and a close friend of many in his large family. Ed was the seventh of fifteen children of Paul and Dorothy Kingsbury, growing up in Boston and graduating from Jamaica Plain High.  At 21, he joined the army, serving in Vietnam at the Da Nang air base.

Upon returning to the States, he moved with his brother Paul to Las Vegas, where he worked for several major casinos which led him to a job in Reno, Nevada. Ed eventually returned to Boston where he worked more than 20 years in the world of social services and support as a valued employee of Pine Street Inn. He was well-known for his work ethic, but he was also a mentor to many of the Inn’s military veterans.

After his family threw him a big surprise party to celebrate his 70th birthday, Ed decided to “retire.” Within weeks, he began working at the VA Hospitals in West Roxbury and Jamaica Plain. He was equally a die-hard Boston sports fan and history buff, especially American history. While his breadth of knowledge allowed him to carry on intelligent, highly detailed and interesting conversations with a wide variety of friends, co-workers and relatives, he was arguably the least pretentious person on earth.

Ed loved listening to music, especially classic rock.

Legend has it he was the favorite uncle to more than 30 nieces and nephews, earning the honor among his 10 brothers.  He leaves brothers:  Donald (Boston), Paul (NJ), Thomas (Boston) and Daniel (Weymouth).  Ed also leaves his sisters Elizabeth Vogelsang (Plymouth), Linda Conti (Northborough), and Jane Logan (Quincy).  He is pre-deceased by brothers:  Richard, William, Robert, Joseph, John and James, and sister Carole Kingsbury.

Ed was 71 when he passed away at the Brockton VA hospital.   The family expresses special thanks for the loving care and support given by the staff at VA unit 4-C-2.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday, April 27 from 10:30-12 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A funeral home service will be celebrated on Monday at 12 PM. At 2:30 PM, Ed will be buried with veteran honors in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, Mass.
