Doris McKay

Doris Gertrude (Reynolds) McKay of Weymouth, MA, passed away at home early Sunday morning (Aug. 12) of heart failure. She was 92.

Born in Newark, NJ, she was raised in Lancaster, PA, and had lived in Weymouth, MA, for more than 60 years where she raised eight children along with her husband David Alan McKay.

During World War II, Doris worked for the Hamilton Watch Co., in Lancaster, PA making marine chronometers for the US Navy. Married in 1950, she became a homemaker, raised her children, and had various part-time jobs, including waitressing at Mister Donut, and a pressroom worker at The Patriot Ledger.

Doris loved the creative arts. She spent much of her free time knitting, sewing, quilting, and creating unique handicrafts and ceramic decorations. She was an avid reader of murder mysteries and never missed an episode of “Murder She Wrote,” or an Agatha Christie novel. Doris loved movies from the 1930’s and 40’s. She took pride in knowing who directed which movie and what studio. She loved musicals and they made her happy. She also loved rummage sales and bargains. She made thousands of handmade Christmas ornaments and would deliver them to church fairs for them to sell.

Dearly loved wife and mother, Doris is survived by Alan E. McKay of CA, Michael McKay of Dorchester, MA, Lois Lynskey of TX, Robert McKay of Weymouth, MA, Richard McKay of GA and Stephen McKay of OH. She is preceded in death by her sons, the late Ronald McKay and Brian McKay, and her late husband. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Doris was also the last survivor of a brother and sister.
