Donald M. Barnard

Donald M. Barnard of Braintree, died October 10, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. The beloved husband of 60 years to Janet (Hobin) Barnard of Braintree. Devoted father of Kim Francis and her husband Joe of Louisiana, Donald M. Barnard, Jr. of Braintree, David Barnard and his wife Zoila, Janine Barnard and her fiance Florentino Gonzalez and Jennifer Barnard all of Quincy and the late Baby John and Mary Ellen Barnard. Brother of Jean Moore of Falmouth and the late Nancy Dungan, Cherished Papa of Allyson, Mauquez, Rebecca, Kalene, Jayden and Aliyah. Donald is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A proud United States Marine, Donald served his country during the Korean War. In his younger days, Don was a semipro boxer. He enjoyed following New England sports teams. Donald worked as a Park and Recreation instructor for the City of Boston for more than 35 years. He thoroughly enjoyed working with the inner city kids and even helped one young man reach his dream of the Junior Olympics in boxing. He served as an Eucharistic minister at St. Thomas More Parish in Braintree. More recently, Don enjoyed playing pool at the senior center in Braintree. He also had a talent for coloring. Although his family is heart broken at the sudden loss, they are grateful for all the blessings he brought into their lives. Donald will be sadly missed.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Thursday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Thomas More Church, at 10:30 AM.

Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
