David G. Gavin of Whitman, passed away suddenly on May 7, 2023. He was born on June 8, 1955 at Quincy Hospital and raised in Braintree. During his childhood, he served as an altar server at Sacred Heart Church. His faith and devotion to God remained strong throughout his entire life.

David graduated from Blue Hills Regional Technical School class of 1974. Soon after, he worked at the General Dynamics Shipyard in Quincy. He earned his third class engineer license and worked for several years at Brockton Hospital. David worked for over 30 years for Boston Gas Company, retiring as a district inspector two years ago.

David was the beloved father of Lauren E. Gavin of Bridgewater, Katelyn M. Gavin of Marshfield, and Michelle L. Eich and her husband Kevin of Halifax. He was the proud and adored Papa to Michaela and Kaiden Eich who were the light of his life. He was a devoted son to Dorothy M. (Wyman) Gavin and the late Frank T. Gavin. David is also survived by his siblings, Glenn F. Gavin of West Barnstable, Janice L. Genatossio of Norton, Richard J. Gavin of Braintree, Stephen J. Gavin of Hanover, Robert J. Gavin of CA, and the late Dorrie E. Connolly. He was the loving, fun uncle to many nieces and nephews.

David touched many lives and will be missed dearly by all who knew him. His unconditional love, sense of humor and charismatic personality will be forever ingrained in all he knew. Aside from spending time with his friends and family, he enjoyed music, bicycling, endless walks, and riding his motorcycle. He was constantly working on new projects and was passionate about history.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Tuesday 5/16/23 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Wednesday prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM. Burial in Hingham Cemetery, Hingham. In lieu of flowers, donations in David’s memory may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at www.lls.org.
