Claire Kannegieser

Claire (Johnson) Kannegieser of Hingham passed away on May 24, 2016 after a long illness. Formerly of Hanover and Milton, she was 81.

Daughter of the late Harry G. and Ebba Johnson, Claire was born in Boston, grew up in Milton and graduated from Milton High School in 1951.  Claire worked for the Massachusetts Banker’s Association in Boston retiring in 1994. Claire was the beloved wife of 52 years to the late Frank Kannegieser; devoted and loving mother to Joan Kannegieser of Marshfield, and John J. Kannegieser II of Los Angeles, CA.  She was a dear sister to Dorothy J. Flett of Hingham and Elaine Donica of Spring, TX; and to brothers David Johnson and his wife Gail of Milton, Paul Johnson and wife Margaret of Lewiston, Maine and the late H. Gilbert Johnson.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Claire was a woman whose universe was defined by family, friends and the Golden Rule.  She was a very social person who loved to entertain and found pleasure traveling and serving as a ‘tour guide’ for out-of-town guests around Boston and Cape Cod.  Claire also enjoyed spending many summers with friends and family at her home in Brewster, MA.  She also loved her regular get-togethers with a group of dear Milton friends who referred to themselves as “The Club”.  Three of this special group of friends, Janet Walsh, Eleanor Stein and Marilyn Harris have been friends with Claire since kindergarten—all friends for life!

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at House of Prayer Lutheran Church in Hingham followed by internment at Milton Cemetery, Milton. Visiting hours have been omitted. For those who wish, donations in memory of Claire would be greatly appreciated and may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association at P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
