Christine Rose (Knoll) Walsh

Christine Rose (Knoll) Walsh, born in 1927 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Ida and Edmund Knoll.

She moved to Chelsea as a young girl and there she attended elementary school. During the summers, her family would move to Great Brewster Island in Boston harbor where her father worked as a lobster fisherman. She would often reminisce about playing on the island with her younger sister Rosemary. Her family eventually moved to North Weymouth, where she married and has lived for 85 years. Chris and her husband Bill formed a local support group for parents of children with Cystic Fibrosis. She was active in the north Weymouth PTA, eventually becoming president. Chris gave piano and guitar lessons to many young people in Weymouth. She performed in Saint Jerome Parish variety shows and with her sister Rosemary and cousin Jack formed a band which played at local nursing homes over many years.

Most recently she volunteered at the Weymouth senior center with her sister Rosemary as one of the Naughty Needlers for over a decade. Chris was devoted to her grandchildren with whom she enjoyed many summer vacations in New Hampshire.

She leaves behind her sons Timothy Walsh of Weymouth, Daniel Walsh and his wife Joanne of Braintree and Thomas Walsh of Jamaica Plain. Her grandchildren Andrew Walsh and his wife Samantha of Braintree, Jason Walsh of Dorchester, and Victoria (Walsh) Lewis and her husband Greg of Phoenix, AZ and her niece Laura (Thibodeau) Jones.

She was predeceased by her husband William Walsh, her sons Billy and Michael, her sister Rosemary and husband Lawrence Thibodeau, her niece Suzanne Thibodeau Kent, her nephew Brian Thibodeau and Chuck Jones, husband of Laura.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday from 4-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A – Bicknell Square).

Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:45 AM on Friday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Jerome Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM.

Burial will follow in Old North Cemetery, Weymouth.
