Charles J. “Chuck” Monahan Jr.

Charles Joseph Monahan, Jr. “Chuck”, of Pembroke, formerly of Dorchester, passed peacefully on December 29th after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s, he was 77.

Chuck was a 56-year member of Local 103 I.B.E.W., where he was active as a member and officer for his entire career, most recently as the Financial Secretary. For Chuck, being an electrician and a member of Local 103 was more than a job, it was a lifestyle. Over his time at Local 103, Chuck created and expanded the Brotherhood Assistance Program and established the Brotherhood Fund, both organizations intended to better the lives of his fellow Brothers, Sisters and Siblings. He was many people’s first call when they had a problem, and nothing made him happier than being able to help Chuck’s dedication to the greater labor movement was also remarkable, he was a leader in programs dedicated to keeping construction sites safe and teaching workers to protect themselves. He has been honored by local and national awards throughout his career.

In addition to his work, he enjoyed being a true friend, a loving husband, an adoring dad, and a proud grampy. Chuck was an athlete who participated on the basketball and softball teams representing Local 103, well beyond when most others his age had stopped jumping and sliding! Every weekend, as long as there wasn’t frost on the course, you could find him very early in the morning playing golf with his friends. A great dancer, Chuck was often the first on and the last off the dance floor at any party. Chuck’s two children often complained, as they were growing up, they didn’t want to stop for another ice cream- but to Chuck, he wanted at least one ice cream a day!

Chuck leaves behind his wife of 5 years, Diane O’Keefe of Halifax, his daughter Stacey Monahan of Westwood, his son Michael Monahan of Portland, OR, his sister Margaret Roffey (Tommy) of Marshfield, and his brother Hughie Monahan (Kathy) of Hanson and his grandchildren Owen, Leila and Marissa Monahan of Westwood and many nieces and nephews.
