Arthur F.S Roebuck, Jr.

Arthur Fenton Sugden Roebuck, Jr., 84 of Cohasset MA passed away peacefully October 31st with family by his side.

He was born July 7, 1932 in Lawrence Massachusetts to Josie Frances Troutman and The Rev. Cannon Arthur F.S. Roebuck. Art and his sisters Janice and Ellen grew up in Portsmouth RI when his father was the rector of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. He also lived in Providence when his father was Dean of The Cathedral of St. John and Pawtucket when his father was the Rector at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. He attended Providence Country Day School class of 51’. 

Arthur was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. He enlisted in the Navy 25 April 1951 and served for four years as a Hospital Corpsman at the Marine Corps Base Camp LeJeune Hospital, NC as an Operating Room Technician.  Although Arthur’s official affiliation ended with Navy in 1955, he continued to be involved by catering numerous events at the Charlestown Naval Ship Yard. 

He met his wife Veneta (Vee) Rue Proctor of Lockport, NY while both were attending Boston University and were married on June 20th 1959 by his father at St, Mary’s Episcopal Church.  This past summer they celebrated their 57th anniversary. They lived in Marblehead, MA eventually settling in Cohasset. 

Arthur Roebuck Catering began with a cheese shop in Duxbury MA, The Country Kitchen in Cohasset Village followed by The British Relief in Hingham Square from 1980-2001. Arthur catered for; The groundbreaking of the Kennedy Library, Queen Elizabeth visit at Charlestown Naval Shipyard, The Boston Opera House, President Ford Boston visit, Arthur Fiedler’s birthday, many weddings and events from Boston to the South Shore for over fifty years.

Arthur is survived by his beloved wife Veneta, his children Amy Roebuck Jones (Andrew Jones) Chesapeake VA, Andrew Roebuck (Dr. Jacqueline Slavik) Milton MA, Sarah Roebuck (Robert Mills) Melbourne FLA, Samuel Roebuck Cohasset.  “PaPa” has two granddaughters Alexandra Roebuck Jones and Lauren Elizabeth Roebuck.

A Celebration of Life will be held at St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church 172 Main Street, Hingham MA on Saturday December 3rd from 12-3:00. A burial service will be held at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Portsmouth, RI in the spring. 

In memory of Arthur donations may be made to Providence Country Day School, The Episcopal Conference Center Pascoag, Rhode Island, Cohasset and Hingham Historical Societies.
