Agnes T. Barkas

Barkas, Agnes T. (Doherty) of Quincy, 92, originally South Boston, died peacefully September 22, 2017 surrounded by family.

Beloved wife of the late John C. Barkas. Loving mother of the late John Barkas and his wife Kathleen of Quincy, the late James Barkas, Ann O’Brien and her husband Alan of Marshfield, Joseph Barkas and his wife Linda of Kingston, Carol Housego of Cary, N.C., and Theresa McCarthy and her husband Robert of Braintree. Cherished sister of the late Patrick J. Doherty, Agnes is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, dear friend Clare Martin of South Boston and sister-in-law Frances Howard of Dorchester.

Agnes, who resided in Quincy for over sixty years, was a wonderful mother, loving  “Gramma” and proud “GG”. She enjoyed traveling with the Castle Island Association and her outings with the River Bay Club, where she lived for ten years. Traveling to Ireland to “kiss the Blarney Stone” was a highlight in her life. Agnes was a strong woman with a quick wit, who loved trivia, bingo, the lottery, and especially reading. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours ‪on Monday 4-8 PM‬in the Keohane Funeral Home, ‪785 Hancock St.‬, QUINCY‬. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home ‪at 9:30 AM on Tuesday‬ prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy ‪at 10:30 AM‬. Burial in MA National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Agnes may be made to the Salvation Army, ‪6 Baxter St., Quincy, MA 02169‬ or to the Alzheimers Assn., MA Chapter, ‪309 Waverley Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452‬.
