Yvonne C. McGrory (Bird) of East Weymouth formerly of Roslindale passed away on Wednesday January 2, 2013 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston following a brief illness. She was 85 years of age.
Beloved wife of the late Arthur Leo McGrory. Loving mother of Carole R. McCarthy married to Frank of Weymouth, Colleen M. McGrory married to Dr. Mark Samuelson, M.D. of South Weymouth and Brian A. McGrory fiance’ of Pam Bendock, D.V.M. of Sudbury. Proud grandmother of Matthew McCarthy of Washington, DC, Jeffrey McCarthy of Boston and Erin Garcia deParedes married to Dan Garcia deParedes D.D.S. of NY. Great-grandmother of Colin and Xavier Garcia deParedes. Yvonne was also a special grandmother to Christina, Francesca, James, Abigail and Caroline. Loving sister of Robert Bird of Norwood, Margaret Sweeney of FL, Jake Bird of Mashpee, the late Roland Bird of Duxbury, the late Norma McCarthy of Braintree and the late Ronald Bird of Hyannis. Yvonne is also survived by her dear friend of many years Jack Sheehan of Weymouth.
Born in Boston, Yvonne was raised and educated in Roslindale and had lived in Weymouth for 42 years. She retired 20 years ago as an executive secretary for Square D an electrical engineering firm and then founded her own event planning business in her retirement. In earlier years Yvonne had worked many years as a medical secretary at the Faulkner Hospital and had also worked in the Mass. Dept. of Public Utilities at the State House. Yvonne was an active volunteer at the South Shore Hospital and brought the Books Are Fun program to the hospital. She enjoyed summers in Kennebunkport, ME and winters on Marco Island, FL.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours in the EAST WEYMOUTH McDonald Funeral Home, corner Middle and Charles Sts. (at 3 Charles St) Friday evening 4:00-8:00pm. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Saturday morning at 9:00 to be followed by a Funeral Mass in the St. Francis Xavier Church at 10:00am. Interment Mount Hope Cemetery, Weymouth.
