William T. Scanlon, Jr.

William T. “Billy” Scanlon, Jr. of Quincy passed peacefully on November 22, 2015 at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford.  He was 67.

Born and raised in South Boston, Billy served two tours in Vietnam with the U.S. Army after high school. When he returned, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Boston State College and began a career that ended with his retirement from the post office after 22 years of service.

A quiet yet witty man, Billy enjoyed life. He spent a lot of time with his family and friends, often showing his love by just being there for their most important moments. He was an avid reader and an accomplished photographer who in later years developed an interest in antiquing. He also enjoyed watching movies, golfing, playing cards or watching football with the guys, and going to the theater.

Billy was the devoted, caring and proud father of Sean Scanlon and his wife Lori of Brighton and a loving Papa Bill to his granddaughter Alexa Rose. He was a dear brother of Helen Monteagudo of Quincy, Paul Scanlon and his wife Sheila of Melrose, Robert Scanlon and his wife Kathleen of South Boston. He is also survived by Patricia Scanlon of Saugus and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:45 AM on Monday followed by a Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy at 10:30 AM. A burial, with military honors, will take place in MA National Cemetery, Bourne.
