Glennon, William T. of North Weymouth, and recently Hingham, passed away February 13, 2019 at age 90, leaving these pages without one of their most loyal readers.
As the father of a large family, a US Army sergeant who served during the Korean Conflict, and an educator and administrator in the Boston Public Schools for 42 years, Bill devoted his life and energy to creating order where there was little. He tackled life as if it was one of his daily crossword puzzles—head down, focused, turning odd clues and surprises into something that made sense whenever possible.
Whether serving as a lector at Sunday Mass, lashing down luggage to the roof of the family station wagon destined for a historic site, tending a grill under an umbrella on rainy nights, standing tall amid some of Boston’s most trying times, providing a welcoming lap to a newborn grandchild, or pausing to watch a Prince Edward Island sunset with his beloved Mary, Bill always cheerfully answered his call to serve.
Bill was born in Boston to the late Helen and Henry Glennon. Loving husband for 60 years to the late Mary F. Glennon. Brother of the late Joseph Glennon. Devoted father of John Glennon and wife Carol of Novato, CA; William Glennon and wife Norma of Gray, ME; Maryellen Glennon of Belmont; Thomas Glennon and wife MaryAnn of Plymouth; Michael Glennon and wife Margie of Alexandria, VA; Joseph Glennon and wife Beth of Haddonfield, NJ; Patrick Glennon and wife Meredith of Rockland; and the late James. Grandfather to 18 grandchildren, a few of whose names he would get right on the first try. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours from 9:00-10:30 AM on Tuesday, February 19 at the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home at 40 Sea Street in NORTH WEYMOUTH (off Route 3A – Bicknell Square). A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 AM at St. Jerome Church, Weymouth. Burial in MA National Cemetery, Bourne.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of William to: NVNA and Hospice, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA 02061.
