William S. Mccarthy

McCarthy, William S. of Chatham, died February 1, 2017.

Bill was a family man who was extremely proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was a U.S. Army Veteran who served in Korea and received a purple heart.  He later worked in the shipping department for Proctor & Gamble in Quincy.  He became the 1950 MA Junior Golf Champion while a caddy at the old Wollaston Golf Course and his North Quincy High School golf team went undefeated.  Another highlight from his earlier years was playing in the high school baseball all-star game at Fenway Park.  He spent winters in Port Charlotte, FL and summers on Cape Cod.  Bill was an avid Boston sports enthusiast and hobbyist gardener.  He will be remembered for his Irish charm, twinkle in his eye, and quiet nature. 

Beloved husband of Joan L. McCarthy of Hopkinton.  Husband of the late Joan McCarthy and Dorothy (Gray) McCarthy.  Loving father of Patricia Picco and her husband Tim of Marshfield, Maureen Joyce and her husband Dan of Boston, Duncan McKinnon and his wife Robin of CT, Michael McCarthy and his wife Ellen of Hanover, Douglas McKinnon and his wife Phiroza of CT, Daniel McKinnon and his wife Julie of CA, and the late Carol McCarthy.  Brother of Harold McCarthy of FL and Clare Schrader of Sandwich.  Also survived by 18 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and his devoted feline companion Stella. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Wednesday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Paul’s Church, Hingham at 10 AM.  Burial in MA National Cemetery, Bourne.
