William Robert (Billy) Carter, Retd. Bpd Detective

William Robert (Billy) Carter, of Houghs Neck, Quincy formerly of Norwood and Boston, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023, at The Carney Hospital in Dorchester. He was 85.

Bill was born and raised in Roxbury, MA on May 19, 1938, to his parents the late Lloyd G. and Louise A. (Gately) Carter.  He graduated from St. Patrick’s Grammar School and Roxbury Memorial High School for Boys. He entered the United States Army during the Vietnam era where he served in the 82nd Airborne in Germany and Lebanon.

William was the beloved husband of Loretta (Chickie Clark) Carter for 63 years. Bill and Loretta were married at St. Patrick’s Church in Roxbury in 1960. He Joined the Boston Police Department in 1970 and retired in 2002. Bill graduated from Boston State College as an undergraduate and Anna Maria college where he received his Master’s Degree.

Bill and Loretta traveled extensively during their life and retirement. Bill studied piano for several years under Eniko Konye. He loved walking Castle Island in South Boston with his BPD partner Bernie Graves.

Bill was preceded in death by his siblings: Lloyd P., George W., John, Anne (Nancy) Carter. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, 3-7 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY.

His funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at 11 AM in Keohane Funeral Home, Quincy.

Services will conclude with interment and military honors at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, at 1:45 PM.
