William R. Gillespie

Gillespie, William R. of Hingham March 14, 2006. Devoted husband of Teresa M. (Shapley) Gillespie of Hingham. Beloved father of Beth Bongiorno of Hingham, Mark Gillespie of Hingham, Mary Halpin of Hingham, Matthew Gillespie of Hingham, Joan Gillespie of Weymouth and Katie Bermejo of Hingham. Cherished “Bubba” of Michael, Sam, Amy, Martha, Jessica, Sarah, Patrick, Marty, Annabel, Grace, Luke, and Tessa. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St., HINGHAM, Friday at 9:30 AM. Funeral Mass in Saint Paul’s Church, Hingham at 10:30 AM. Visiting hours Thursday 5-9 PM. Burial in Saint Paul’s Cemetery, Hingham. Bill served as a Sergeant in the US Army and was very proud of his accomplishments. He received the Combat Infantryman Badge, Silver Star Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Service Star, and a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Bill graduated from Boston College in 1946 and was the Chief Probation Officer for the City of Boston at the So. Boston Municipal Courthouse for 30 years retiring in 1985. Bill loved sports especially baseball and was a Sandlot Baseball Coach in Hingham for many years. Bill was also a member of the Holy Name Society. Most of all Bill enjoyed his family and spending time with them. Donations in memory of Bill may be made to Maryknoll Sisters, Dept.
