William R. “Bill” Barnes

Barnes, William R. “Bill”, 76, passed away on November 4, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. Born in South Boston on November 25, 1933, he was the son of the late Joseph T. and Katherine (Malloy) Barnes. He enlisted in the Army and proudly served his Country in Korea. Mr. Barnes was employed by the Boston Police Department for 31 years retiring in 1995. During his time on the police force, he proudly served the communities of Mattapan and Roxbury. He leaves his beloved wife of thirty- six years Jean M. (Tompkins) Barnes of Hull, and the late Marjorie C. Barnes (married twenty-one years). Devoted father of William R. and his partner Paul of Milton, NH, Robert D. and his wife Karen of Bridgewater, Kenneth F. and his wife Linda of Braintree, David A. and his wife Cathy F. of Hull, Marjorie C. and her husband Matthew of Hingham, Cathy C. and her husband David A. of Hull, Diane E. of Hull, Pamela J. Lankowski of Stoughton, Sheri Engren A. and her husband Eric of Marshfield, Stacy A. Hortaridis and her husband James of Hull, Joseph S. Lankowski and his wife Alicia of Billerica, Robert G. Lankowski and his wife Diane of Lakeville, Dawn M. Morison of Quincy and Lisa M. Hauter of Quincy. Loving brother of Katherine Farmer of Hopkinton and the late John, Joseph, Edward, Frances, Dorothy, and Rita. He was a dedicated and loving grandfather to twenty nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He cherished each of them for the joy they brought to his life. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours Monday 4 – 8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15AM on Tuesday, prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Mary of the Assumption Parish in St. Ann’s Church at 10 AM. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Donations in memory of William may be made to the American Lung Assn. of MA, 460 Totten Pond Rd., Suite 400, Waltham, MA 02451.
