William L. Cleary

Cleary, William L. “Bill” of Hingham, died June 3, 2014.

William was raised and educated in E. Boston. Where he met Christine, his wife of 63 years, in the fourth grade.  Bill was a Quartermaster 3C in the Navy in the south seas during WWII and served on the LCS (L) (3) 86 as a member of the “Mighty Midgets.” After returning from the war in 1948, he settled down with Christine and raised a family. Bill worked for most of his life at Chapin-Wood Insurance in Cambridge as COO. Bill was widely known as an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox. Among his many interests were fishing, cribbage, stamp collecting, studying the Dead Sea Scrolls and solving crossword puzzles. 

Bill was a devoted husband to his predeceased wife Christine (Doucette). A loving father to Marc W. Cleary and his wife Joanne of Braintree, Jane C. Cleary of N. Weymouth, and Anne E. Dee and her husband Michael of Norwell. He cherished his grandsons David and Dean Cleary. Bill is predeceased by his brothers George Cleary and Paul LaPierre, and his sister Ethel LaPierre.  Bill is survived by his brother John Cleary of Peabody and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday 2-6 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street.  Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9 AM Monday prior to the Funeral Service in First Church in Weymouth at 10 AM. Burial in Old North Cemetery, Weymouth.

Donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the Landing Craft Support Museum at 7345 W. Lakeside Dr. Littleton, CO 80125.
