Schmitt, William J., Sr. of Wollaston, formerly of Brookline, died April 14,2013.
William’s family was the central focus of his life. He enjoyed time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great granddaughter. A graduate of Coyne Electrical School in Boston, he worked for over 25 years, retiring in 2012 as Director of Facilities for Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown. A United States Veteran, William served in the Army during WWII. He was a troop leader with Boy Scouts when his children were young and continued to volunteer for years later, earning the prestigious Silver Beaver Award, a council level award for distinguished service. He was also a longtime volunteer with Quincy Youth Football. He will be remembered for his willingness to help and his ability to fix nearly anything.
Beloved husband of Catherine P. Schmitt of Wollaston. Loving father of Julie Schmitt Sullivan and her husband Dennis of Norwell, William J. Schmitt, Jr. and his wife Karen of Norwell, Paul Schmitt and his wife Kathyann of Weymouth, and Brian Schmitt and his wife Judith of Hull. Brother of the late Paul Schmitt, Jr. Brother-in-law of Regina Schmitt of Woburn. Cherished grandfather of Brenda Hill, Whitney Laws, Makenzie Schmitt, Kellyann Schmitt, and Ryan Schmitt. Loving great grandfather of Hayden Hill.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Thursday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann Church, Quincy at 10 AM. Burial in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of William may be made to Hospice of the South Shore, 30 Reservoir Park Dr., Rockland, MA 02370.
