Son of William A. Schmid and Dorothy Schmid Springsteen. Bill was born in Morristown N.J. Was graduated from Farliegh Dickenson University cum laude in 1960. Served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. After working for McGraw-Hill,NYC as an advertising salesman he and his family were transferred to Boston in 1964.

He joined U.S. News and World Report where he managed the Boston office in Fanueil Hall. Throughout his career, Bill received distinguished salesmen awards and was president of the Lantern Club.

Bill was an avid reader of history, loved to cook, ran marathons including Boston, New York City, San Francisco, Washington D.C and Bermuda. He was a long time volunteer at the North Carolina Sea Turtle Protection Program and the North Carolina Aquarium. Bill was the father of 8 children and is preceded in death by his son James Schmid. He is survived by his former wife Dolores Schmid, son William and daughter in law Joan all of Scituate, Kathyrn Tambke (Ted) of Santa Fe, Jeanne Hagmaier (Brad), Robert (Anamaria) Schmid,Susan Schmid, Paul Schmid and Matthew Schmid all of California. Also survived by (9) loving grandchildren.

Bill was lovingly cared for at Allerton House, Weymouth and died peacefully with his family at his side at Pat Rouche Hospice House, Hingham.

Memorial Service to be held Tuesday, September 15th 2:00pm at St. Frances X. Cabrini Church, 27 Hood Road, North Scituate.

In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Pat Roche Hospice House, Hingham, in memory of Bill Schmid.
